IEEE History Center: View IEEE Milestones on Yahoo!Maps

 World Map

Staff has added an enhancement to the IEEE Milestones Program web page which we hope will encourage people to visit IEEE Milestone plaque locations by providing them with addresses, maps, and satellite images from Yahoo!Maps. The project was a collaboration between the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities and the IEEE History Center, and was an experiment to find out how combinations of IEEE data and other sources can be used to create an integrated tool enhancing IEEE's Web presence. We are especially grateful to Eugene Khusid, whose assistance and ingenuity was crucial to this project.

Being able to view the milestone sites from above -- especially visually dramatic ones such as Mt. Fuji Radar, and the Arecibo Radio Telescope -- we hope will add extra interest to the Milestones Program, while the increased stream of visitors to those sites will increase IEEE's visibility around the world.

The new map/satellite page can be found at: http://milestonemaps.ieee.org Please feel free to send Robert Colburn any feedback, and we hope you enjoy this enhancement to the Milestone Program.
