The growth and nurturing of our 375,000+ members is a core value of IEEE. This track focuses on how a member’s relationship with IEEE can be enhanced through local engagement. Geographic unit leaders will be trained on the benefits of IEEE membership, and how to communicate and apply these benefits to the needs of members in their local area. Track participants will also learn best practices for using the IEEE Membership Development tools, staff and volunteer network. Leveraging these resources will ultimately lead to significantly increased retention, recruitment and recovery of members at the local Section level.

Developing a 360 Degree View of the Member: Member Segmentation: One of the benefits of our new Business Management System is the opportunity to get a better understanding of our members, allowing us to meet their needs in a more efficient and proactive manner. Attendees of this session will understand: What is meant by the 360 degree view of a member? Who are IEEE members? What are the members’ needs, values and behaviors? Finally, they will learn how this information can be used to engage members at the local level.
IEEE Section Value and Communications Through Web 2.0 Find out how to use Web 2.0—Blogs, Wikis & Communities: To enhance the communication between IEEE Sections and their membership and increase member satisfaction. .
Increasing Society Membership Through Chapter Engagement: Several initiatives are being worked on by MGA and IEEE Societies to increase society membership. Attendees will learn about these programs, and how your Section can help promote and increase Society memberships through integration with local chapters.
Member Recognition Through the Lifecycle—Grades and Elevations: There are numerous IEEE member grades ranging from Student to Fellow. In this session, programs for elevating members to higher grades will be presented. Examples of successful elevation programs will be described including Associate to Member, Member to Senior Member and Senior Member to Fellow.
Membership Development— Creating Leads and Following Through How can the activities of your Section increase membership value for IEEE members?: This session will provide a basis for Section leaders to create and manage sustainable local membership programs to increase membership in the Section.
Resources and Tools in Support of Membership Development: How do I increase my Section’s membership? Where do I get brochures? Growing IEEE membership is a complex challenge for any Section, which requires a sophisticated mix of tactics to support a volunteer effort. This session reviews the global strategy for growing IEEE membership in 2009, and the resources available to all volunteers tasked with growing membership locally. Attendees will learn how to leverage the membership business calendar, why the Membership Development manual is required reading, and where to seek real-time advice about tactics.
The Benefits of Membership: The vast array of IEEE member benefits are designed to meet the equally vast array of member needs. This session will provide an overview of IEEE member benefits and discuss how the knowledge of benefits can be utilized to improve retention, recruitment and recovery of members within your Section.
