The success of IEEE depends on the continued cooperation between geographic units at the local level. This track focuses on how to promote and facilitate the delivery of technical, professional and educational material. Issues cover a broad range of topics such as learning how to leverage Standards and Publications; acknowledging contributions of members through awards and recognition; learning about new humanitarian projects supported by IEEE and its members; and working with students and student branches. Activities your Section can undertake to enhance its image and  support IEEE are also discussed.

All Section/Chapter Activities Presentations (pkzip - 22.3mb)

Building Alliances with Industry
Learn about programs that Sections may use to build mutually beneficial and successful relationships with industry and corporations. An update on the activities of the IEEE Student Branches Industry Relations program (ISBIR) will be provided.

Building Section/Chapter/Society Relationships
Engaging the member means Sections, chapters, affinity groups, Societies and Regions work together to conduct successful activities. Chapter/affinity group coordinators, special funding and distinguished lecturer programs offer the opportunity for great joint resources. Organizing chapter chair meetings within your Section is also an option.

Celebrating the Member Through Awards and Recognition
Recognizing the contributions of volunteers is one of the most important things a Section leader can do. Developing a Section awards program is easy. Learn the tips and tricks used by the successful Sections.

Create Successful Teacher-In-Service Programs in Your Section
This session will present case studies of successful programs that target pre-college activities in schools. Section leaders will learn about programs directed at students, as well as programs that raise the level of science education and technical literacy of teachers.

Engaging Members in Humanitarian Efforts
Participating in community events and humanitarian efforts enhance the image of IEEE and your geographic unit. This session will profile and ask for Section participation in the IEEE Humanitarian Technology Challenge.

Engaging Student and Student Branches
How can you foster student participation in Section activities and IEEE in general? Learn about the needs of student members and how those needs can be met through Section involvement—focusing on the identification and development of student leaders. The results are greater harmony and coordination between the Section and its student members.

Humanitarian Projects of IEEE Members —Case Study
Learn about the many humanitarian initiatives taking place in Region 10. Hear how members have organized and worked on novel, demand-driven relief organized after a tsunami hit India; education for underprivileged women and children championed by GOLD; and efforts for diagnosis of autistic children.

IEEE Members in a Global Workforce
Be a part of the discussion on what IEEE can do to support its members to function best in a global workforce.

Improving the Professional Through the IEEE Code of Ethics
Use the IEEE Code of Ethics to help Section members make the right ethical decisions in their professional lives.

Member Engagement Through Affinity Group Activities
Why should a Section have an affinity group? Find out how affinity group (i.e., LM, GOLD, WIE and CN) activities benefit IEEE.

Partnering with Non-IEEE Technical and Professional Groups
Many opportunities exist for IEEE Sections to partner with non-IEEE technical and professional groups to enhance local services to members. This session will cover the practical aspects of collaboration with non-IEEE entities, using examples from Region 8 (UKRI Section) and Region 10 (India). The role of national Society agreements in the four transnational Regions will also be discussed.

Role of Standards and Publications in Sections Activities
Learn how to utilize IEEE resources to develop and conduct activities for members as well as to provide member benefits more locally. This session covers resources related to Standards and Publications.

Reviving Student Branches Using the Region 10 Model
By setting up LINK (Local Integrated Network of Kerala IEEE Student Branches), the IEEE Kerala Section has successfully improved collaboration between student branches. Using this model, Region 10 launched the GINI (Global Integrated Network of IEEE) project to revive dormant student branches and help form new ones. A brief summary report on the Region 10 Student Branch Congress is also included. Discover how can your Section benefit from this experience.
